Reader Bill Alsup took this photo in 1991 (and still does film only and has a complete darkroom). Alsup said the recent story about the death of Gene Rose made him think of it.I call it A Long Shadow,” said Alsup. That Douglas fir lived 200 years next to Vernal Falls. About a hundred years ago the top half broke off. But the tree flourished anyway until about 2005 when the lower half died and fell.”Alsup said he made this photo with a 5×7 field camera.
