Coach Rae Rockey said the Yosemite High School Swim Team continued its strong season with an impressive showing recently at Dos Palos High School in Merced County during their second league meet.
“Yosemite delivered a well-earned team victory, with several swimmers recording personal best times,” Rockey said. “The results reflect the team’s consistent effort in practice and growing confidence in competition.”
Despite spring pollen affecting some athletes, the coach said Yosemite competed with focus, toughness and resilience.
Leading the way was Joseph Nichols, who turned in an outstanding swim in the 200 freestyle.
“The 200 freestyle is a demanding event that requires both endurance and race strategy, balancing speed with control over four laps,” Rockey said.
“Nichols dropped significant time and powered his way to a first-place finish, showing smart pacing, a strong middle build and a confident finish.”
Mack Gauthier also delivered a dominant performance in the girls 200 freestyle, finishing in first place. The event challenges swimmers to maintain rhythm and efficiency while building speed throughout the race and the coach said “Mack” did just that.
“Her swim was smooth, controlled and powerful from start to finish, highlighting her discipline and consistency in the water.”
Luke Georgeson delivered an impressive swim in the 100 backstroke.
“Backstroke challenges swimmers to stay aligned and efficient while racing without seeing forward, relying on body awareness, timing and rhythm. Luke maintained a clean line in the water, controlled his tempo and showed a steady, powerful kick as he pulled ahead of the field with confidence.”
Rockey said the meet was another step forward for Yosemite, as the team continues to improve and build momentum early in the season.
