When the call went out asking volunteers to come and help the community center get a new roof, the community did not disappoint.
“The main hall roof replacement was a wonderful success,” said Jessica Trettin of last week’s efforts led by her and Dennis Kogler as co-chairs of the property’s board of directors.
“The community really came together to make this happen and we are so excited to have also replaced the swamp coolers on the main hall in addition to the Little League bathroom roof.”
Originally built in 1965 with funds raised by area service clubs, the OCC enjoys no sustainable government funding and was in dire need of mitigation on the delayed maintenance.
It takes a village to re-roof a community center.
Help came in a variety of forms from Kogler and Kogler Enterprises for overall project planning and management, Shayna Chaney at All Weather Roofing Supply and Steven Bates at Mountain Aire.
It couldn’t have happened without Josh Nott at Rock Wonders, Will Foley at Sierra Mountain Roofing, Standard Plumbing Supply, James Bates at Yosemite Falls Lumber, Red Rock and Caglia Environmental Group and Ashley Smith at Emadco who donated roll off dumpsters for the project.
Indispensable were William Van Ren, Matthew Treber, Jamie Bax and District 5 Supervisor Bobby Macaulay, all with Madera County, who waived the permit and dump fees for the project.
Nonprofits which donated money toward the project include the Eastern Madera County Foundation, Rotary Club of Oakhurst Sierra, Sunrise Rotary and Soroptimist of the Sierra.
Individuals who donated their time in addition to Trettin and Kogler include Josh Augason, Don DeBarnardi, Gary Marshall, Randy Thomson, Brook Allen, Eric Wood, Ron Lawrence, Cole Lawrence, Nickolas Kazynski, Daniel Oliva, Bobby Green, Laura Shaw and Jen Simmons.
Groups and businesses which donated food for the crew included Trettin’s The Wandering Bride, Karina Bulow-Brown, Yosemite Mortgage, Tina Horn, Bee’s Bakery, Sierra Asset Management, eXp Realty, Mindy Klang, Mike Dinuba, Bigfoot Bakery, MY Club and OMFG Fantastic Grub.
“This is a really exciting project to be completed for our whole mountain area and the community center,” Trettin said. “A huge thank you to everyone listed who made this project possible.”
