League action has officially begun and as the track and field team at Mariposa County High School attended their first league meet of the season last week.

On March 11, the Grizzlies traveled to Waterford for their first taste of league action as they competed against Denair, Delhi, Waterford, Le Grand, Modesto Christian and Gustine.

Denair came out on top in the mens varsity events with a total score of 159.5. In second place was Waterford with 147 followed by Delhi in third with 86.5.

In fourth was Le Grand with 58.5 followed by Mariposa with 56.5.

In the mens JV events, Le Grand took first place with 129 followed by Denair in second with 109.

Waterford finished in third with 100 points followed by Gustine with 74 and Mariposa with 36. Delhi finished with 13 points.

For the womens varsity events, it was Delhi who finished in first with 139 followed by Waterford in second with 110.33.

Denair finished third with 96.33 followed by Mariposa with 66.33.

Le Grand placed fifth with 60.5 and Gustine finished with 0.5 points.

Mens varsity highlights

Rusty Bull placed first in the 400 meter with a time of 55.54.

In the 4×400 meter relay Bull, Mason Rivera, Brandon Marquez and Samuel Siller took third with a time of 3:57.07.

Eamon Fluharty continues to be a beast in the shot put ring taking first place with a throw of 40’0”.

Fluharty earned second place in the discus throw with 111’6”.

In the high jump, Jeremiah Jackson took third with 5’’6”.

Joseph Walker placed third in pole vault with 8’0”.

MCHS JV highlights

The 4×400 meter relay team, consisting of Devin Coca, Peyton Coca, Nathaneal Godinez and Keenen Johnson, placed first with a time of 4:23.46.

In the high jump, Devin Coca took first place with a distance of 4’10”.

MCHS womens varsity highlights

Juniper Helling took first place in the 400 meter with a time of 1:05.21.

In the 800 meter, Brittany Vargas came in second place with 3:00.41.

Marley Gediman, Nailea Gonzalez, Juno Pike and Vargas finished first in the 4×800 meter relay with a time of 13:19.79.

Helling took first place in the high jump with a distance of 4’8” while Jaysea Whitmire grabbed third place with 4’2”.

In the long jump, Tania Marquez finished second with 13’6”.

The team will travel to Waterford for their second league meet on March 25. Events begin at 2 p.m.
