You know spring has sprung when the buckeye bloom, frogs are back and Mountain Artisans Market returns to Fresno Flats Historic Village and Park for another season.

And, like the equinox, it does return — this year on Saturday, March 21 from 11 a.m.-4 p.m.

Mountain Artisans Market is a community centered gathering of goods and services held on the third Thursday of each month from March through August. The events are now being managed by Juliette Vuillaume’s Yosemite Foothills.

I’m really excited to share that Mountain Artisans Market now has a new home online,” said Vuillaume.Everything is in one place: market dates, applications, music and performance info and ways to get involved.

The market shifts time with the seasons: markets in March, April, September and October run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. while those in May, June, July and August take place in the evening from 4 – 9 p.m.

There’s no charge to attend Mountain Artisans Market for visitors; 10 x 10 foot booth fees for artisans, food and beverage and other vendors is $35 with a portion going to the nonprofit park.

Nonprofit and community organizations are offered booths for free with a minimal deposit which is later refunded to secure the spot. Local musicians, bands, small ensembles, choirs, instrument groups and school groups, spoken word, dance and community performances are welcome to apply for participation.

This market has meant a lot to me since I moved here,” Vuillaume said. This year, my hope is to create something that feels deeply community-centered — a place where you don’t just shop but connect, learn and feel part of something.

Vuillaume emphasized the grass roots nature of this ongoing venture originally founded by “Lavender Lady” Sandy Schaefer of From My Garden Lavender Products and Gifts. Schaefer will be in attendance at this year’s markets.

Keeping with the founder’s intention, Mountain Artisans Market continues the tradition of offering handmade goods, local food, music and connection.

Kai Asmund will organize the live music and perform March 21 along with locals Chris Edwards, Logan Cacy and Will Collins.

It’s about helping someone new learn the ropes and discovering gems in our own backyard. If you’re a local musician, band, choir, school group or performer rooted in the Yosemite foothills, I would love for you to apply. We’re creating a relaxed, welcoming space where people can gather, listen and feel part of something.

Mountain Artisans Market is community built and volunteer driven. Sponsors and volunteers are welcome.

Matsumoto’s Samurai Kitchen will be on hand this month serving fresh and delicious meals while, for the first time, The Hitching Post will be serving alcohol at Mountain Artisans Market.

Fresno Flats docents will offer tours and carnival games and the market will feature new and returning vendors.
