Message to married ladies

musicWave

Editor,

If the “SAVE” act passes in the Senate, married ladies who took their husbands’ last names are going to have to prove their identity.

If your current name does not match the name on your birth certificate, you are going to have to document any changes before you can vote. Been voting all your life? Won’t matter.

Will your marriage certificate be enough proof? Don’t know. Do you have a Real ID? It probably won’t count. Are you a world traveler? Your passport might do the trick.

No matter what, you are facing a hassle and a hurdle, and expense just to do what you have always done (and men will continue to do unimpeded): cast your ballot. If you’re lucky.

These measures are not necessary. But Republicans are afraid women won’t vote for them. So they want to make it harder for all of us to vote.

No surprise that Tom McClintock voted “yea” on this bill. He would rather take away your right to vote — red or blue — than risk that you won’t vote for him.
