A Coarsegold resident posted a screen shot of what he said was his surveillance camera footage that appeared to show an alarming sight.

The picture showed a ball-capped man walking in grass, dark behind him, wearing a stained jacket and pants while carrying an object in his right hand, looking directly into the camera.

Mike Wright shared the image on social media and the response was tremendous as hundreds of readers chimed in with their opinions on the apparent situation.

Does anyone recognize this guy?Wright asked on March 12.

He was caught on trail cam going through my ranch at 3:30 a.m. this morning with an ax and blood on his forehead and hand. This is over off Road 600 by Grub Gulch. If you have any idea who he is please message me.

Wright said he had called authorities and met with sheriff’s deputies but, by the time he reviewed the footage, it was already hours after the fact.

“Our deputies responded to the property early this morning upon the initial report and found no signs of the trespasser,” a spokesperson for the Madera County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) told the Gazette.

Day shift deputies went out as a follow-up during the daylight and searched toward the Fresno River and found no signs of a disturbance, no blood trail and no signs of anything or anyone injured or deceased,” MCSO continued.

The sheriff’s office did not say what the subject of the photo appeared to carry.

Officials said deputies were trying to identify him.

If anyone has information about his identity, call (559) 675-7770.
