And just like that, preseason is over and league competition has begun.

The Grizzlies varsity softball team wrapped up their preseason prep work against Golden Valley on March 11.

It was a close matchup but MCHS lost 9-6.

It’s great to compete with the bigger programs and learn from what they have to offer,” coach Kiya Smith said.

It really challenges us to play at a higher level.

The Grizzlies finished the preseason with a record of 4-8 as they faced the Coyotes from Denair in their first league game of the season on March 18 at MCHS.

Results were not available at press time.

The Grizzlies were 9-1 in their last 10 games against the Coyotes while Denair entered the game following a 16-0 shutout loss against Downey.

Denair finished the preseason with a 5-5 record.

Along with Denair, the Grizzlies will face Delhi, Waterford, Gustine, Le Grand and Stone Ridge Christian during league this season.

Next up, MCHS will travel to Delhi to face the Hawks on March 20.
