Visitors to Bass Lake will reel in a chance to win their share of $55,000 the first weekend in May at the 45th Annual Bass Lake Fishing Derby sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce.

The two-day event is set for Saturday and Sunday, May 2-3, officially kicking off Bass Lake’s 125th anniversary celebration with more exciting events to follow throughout the season.

This annual event is a longstanding tradition for many families,” said Michelle Miller, president of the Bass Lake Chamber of Commerce.

It brings together fishermen and women of all skill levels for a weekend of fun with the potential to win some serious cash prizes.

Anglers have a chance to snag a portion of $55,000 in tagged fish with more than 1,000 tagged rainbow trout released into the lake prior to the derby — each worth varying amounts.

The abundance includes 847 tagged fish worth $20, 150 worth $100, one fish worth $5,000 and two grand prize tagged fish worth $10,000 each.

Last year’s fishing derby winner Shannon Byrne of North Fork took home a top prize of $10,000, marking the first time in the history of the event a woman has done so.

In 2025, derby participants numbered 1,431, with a total of 129 fish caught. In addition to the grand prize winner, 111 fish tagged for $20 were turned in and 17 fish tagged for $100 were caught. The total payout for last year’s fishing derby was $13,920.

Registration is open now for the 2026 Bass Lake Fishing Derby. Entrance fees are $35 per individual (16 and older) and $15 per child (15 and under).
