The Yosemite Half Marathon organized by Vacation Races returns to Eastern Madera County on Saturday, May 9.
Since 2012, Vacation Races has been on a mission to connect people with the great outdoors, hosting unforgettable half marathons on the fringes of the nation’s most stunning national parks.
“But there is something truly special about the Yosemite area,” said race director Kapu Gaison.
“Our runners return year after year not just for the spectacular scenery but for the unmatched hospitality of the local community.”
Gaison offered a message to the residents and businesses of Bass Lake and Oakhurst ahead of the 2026 competition.
“Thank you! We love being here just as much as our runners do.”
An epic course
This year’s route promises to be an exhilarating adventure. The race kicks off on the rugged, off-the-beaten-path terrain of Fire Road 6S40, giving runners a true taste of the wild.
From miles five through nine, the course transitions into a fast, thrilling downhill descent along a beautiful paved road.
After joining Beasore Road and crossing RD-274 (Malum Ridge Road), runners will turn right onto North Shore Road, soaking in the stunning views around Bass Lake until mile 12.1.
The final stretch takes a left onto South Shore Road, cruising past the Recreation Point entrance and making a final left into the Little Denver Church Day Use parking lot.
From there, runners will push through the last short stretch of a scenic path to an unforgettable finish line at Recreation Point.
Important traffic and community updates
“We want to ensure everyone in the community is fully prepared for the morning’s activities so there are no surprises on Saturday,” Gaison said.
To ensure a safe, smooth and spectacular event for both runners and residents, note the following traffic updates for Saturday, May 9.
Early morning shuttles: starting bright and early at 4 a.m. runners will be shuttled to the starting line. Pickups will occur at designated parking areas in Oakhurst as well as local Bass Lake accommodations including The Pines, The Forks, Miller’s Landing and the Recreation Point Campground.
Peak traffic hours: Expect the heaviest morning traffic in the area between 4-10 a.m.
Caution on open roads: Portions of the route are an open course. Drivers are urged to go slow and exercise extreme caution as there will be both cars and runners sharing the road.
“Thank you for sharing your beautiful home with us, for your patience and for cheering on the runners as they cross the finish line. Here’s to another safe and successful race year!”
