With temperatures heating up this week, the Madera County Sheriff’s Office reaffirmed their local cooling center location and offered tips to stay cool this summer.
The Sheriff’s substation at 48267 Liberty Drive in Oakhurst will act as a cooling center.
Cooling locations in Madera include the Sheriff’s Office at 2725 Falcon Drive, the PanAm Community Center at 703 Sherwood Way and the Madera Police Department at 330 S. C Street.
Officials said to beat the heat by staying in the shade, use cooling aids, fan and air conditioner and wearing sun protection including hat, glasses and lightweight clothes.
Stay hydrated: drink water regularly throughout the day to replace fluids lost from heat and sweating and avoid waiting until you are extremely thirsty to hydrate.
Symptoms of heat illness include heavy sweating, feeling very tired and weak or feeling dizzy, lightheaded or sick to your stomach.
Children under five, adults 65 and over, people taking certain medications and persons with disabilities should be watched closely for signs of heat illness.
Pets should be kept indoors or in shaded areas as much as possible. Provide shade from trees, buildings or sunshades. Make sure animals always have access to cool, clean water.
