Madera County officials on Oct. 19 broke ground on the new multi-million dollar, state-of-the-art Riverstone Fire Station 6.
The three-engine, nearly 9,000 square foot fire house located at 11260 Avenue 40 in Madera is about a year away from completion.
Riverstone is a large, award-winning master planned community just north of Fresno along Highway 41. County officials said the new station will drastically improve response time for the Riverstone and Madera Ranchos communities and surrounding areas .
The 2.4 acre site is located on Road 40 near Avenue 12 and is designed to accommodate a ladder truck, six firefighter bunk rooms, a kitchen, an exercise room and public space.
Fire Station 6 will replace the temporary Fire Station 9 on Avenue 11, serving more than 6,500 homes. The $11.5 million station 6, fully paid for from development impact fees, is modernized with upgraded health and safety standards reducing firefighter exposure from carcinogens and contaminants.
Completion is expected in the fall of 2027.
Supervisor Jordan Wamhoff said this is an exciting milestone for the area.
“This groundbreaking represents a significant investment in public safety and our commitment to ensuring our growing communities have the resources and emergency services they need,” said Wamhoff.
“I’m proud to say this will be one of the first fire stations to be always staffed with three firefighters following through on our promise of making public safety our top priority.”
