There’s little doubt fire season is upon Mariposa County, as evidenced with several fires in the area.
And in nearby Stanislaus County, a fire this past weekend burned 191 acres.
A fire in Mariposa County that began on May 13 scorched 33 acres near Lake McClure.
The Bend Fire, which was first reported near the Horseshoe Bend area, was a tough blaze for firefighters as it was in steep, hard-to-reach terrain, according to CAL FIRE.
Numerous helicopters and airplanes attacked the blaze, along with eight engines, four hand crews and a tot of 112 personnel. The fire burned for several days because of the terrain.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation and no structures were burned.
Near La Grange, which is in Stanislaus County not far from Mariposa County, the Dawson Fire broke out on May 17 and quickly spread because of high winds.
It was reported at the junction of J59 and Old La Grange Road.
By the next morning, CAL FIRE officials reported the fire was 100 percent contained after it had burned 191 acres.
The CAL FIRE status report on Monday did not list the amount of equipment or personnel associated with the fire.
A smaller fire was reported on Sunday on Wildcat Road off of Hirsch Road in the Woodland area.
The Hirsch Fire only burned a couple of acres. After the initial call, dispatchers quickly canceled incoming aircraft and fire personnel were on the scene for a few hours in mop up duties.
A small billow of white smoke could be see associated with the fire.
To date, CAL FIRE reports there have been 1,436 wildfires in the state this year. The further report 32,054 acres have been burned.
There have been no reported fatalities this year and seven structures have been reported as destroyed.
Fire season is just ramping up in the state and high winds in the Central Valley earlier this week caused power shutdowns by PG&E for some customers.
