Now Madera County residents and commuters on Highway 41 can access a new website for updates on the big expansion project between Avenues 10 ½ and 15 in real time.
June 9 marked the start of construction on the State Route 41 Expressway Project along with the launch of the new website: www.41expressway.com
“We’ll be moving dirt pretty quickly,” said Jared Carter, county director of public works. “It’s been a long time coming.”
The $130 million expressway undertaking is the largest transportation improvement project in county history. The highway is a major thoroughfare to Yosemite National Park, transporting millions of visitors each year.
Led by Madera County in coordination with Caltrans and regional partners, the project is expected to reduce congestions, improve travel times and accommodate future residential and commercial growth along the corridor.
“We know (construction) is going to be an inconvenience to you but it’s going to be worth it in the end,” Carter said.
“We appreciate your patience. Please be careful as you travel through the construction zone and mindful of our workers and equipment and all the things that are happening out here.”
The 4.6 mile expansion improvements include widening the highway to four lanes, construction of a new southbound bridge over Avenue 11, intersection expansion and improvements to the traffic signal at Avenue 12 and modifications to the existing intersection at Avenue 15.
“We’re hoping to complete this work in about 18 months barring unforeseen delays. Check out the website and you can get updates on traffic control, changes and things happening throughout the project.”
The new interactive website is equipped with videos and construction maps to help keep the public informed on all phases of the project through its completion.
