Minarets High School Baseball closed out its 2026 season as the most decorated in program history and at the center of it all was junior Jamie Spurgeon.
Minarets competes in the Central Section of the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF).
The 2026 season saw the program capture both the Division 5 Central Section “Valley” Championship and the Division 5 Nor-Cal Regional Championship.
The season was highlighted by Spurgeon’s All-Time Central Section record of 65 hits in a season. School officials said his record breaking campaign was defined by consistency and clutch performances.
Across 34 games, Spurgeon posted a .512 batting average to go along with 51 RBIs, 20 doubles, seven triples, six home runs and 19 stolen bases. That’s a stat line that places him among the most productive hitters in Central Section history.
Minarets Coach Jesse Darrah said he’s never seen a player quite like Spurgeon. And Darrah has coached at every level of the game as a multiple-time Coach of the Year recently named California’s Small-School Coach of the Year by Cal-Hi Sports.

“Jamie Spurgeon is the most explosive offensive player I have ever seen at the high school level,” Darrah said.
“His combination of speed, power, bat to ball skills and instinct is certainly next level. Not only is he an exceptional hitter, he is also our ace pitcher who throws his fastball in the low 90s consistently.”
The new record for hits in a season, 65, surpasses every mark previously set in section history, cementing Spurgeon’s place among the region’s all-time greats — and he accomplished this all in just his junior season.
Officials said the player’s contributions weren’t limited to the batter’s box.
As Minarets’ ace pitcher, Spurgeon struck out 104 batters in 61.2 innings pitched, consistently throwing his fastball into the low 90s — a dual-threat presence that made him one of the most dominant players in the section on both sides of the game.
And his talent extends beyond the diamond.
A two-sport standout, Spurgeon is committed to play both football and baseball for the California Golden Bears (Cal) at Cal State Berkeley beginning in 2027/2028, a testament to the kind of elite, multi-sport athleticism that has defined his high school career.
Minarets baseball and its coaching staff extended their congratulations to Spurgeon for his individual accomplishment as well as to the entire team and community for its historic championship run this year.
