The Central Valley All-Star Soccer games will take place at Le Grand High School this weekend on June 20.

The event showcases top high school soccer talent from the Southern League (SAL) and the Central California Conference (CCC).

The girls game will begin at 5:30 p.m. followed by the boys game at 7 p.m.

Mariposa County High School had four athletes selected to play.

Those athletes are Whitney Marcis, Alicia Garcia, Jhovany Marquez and Brandon Naranjo.

Marcis and Garcia are freshmen this year and played their first season with MCHS.

When I was selected I felt really lucky and honored to have the opportunity, especially as a freshman,” Marcis said.

To me this means that for the next three years I need to keep up my reputation and continue to have an impact on the team.

Garcia had the opportunity to play an All-Star game during middle school.

I was really honored and the fact that I get the opportunity to play in All-Stars again makes me happy,” Garcia said.

It means a lot to me, especially being selected as a freshman. Being selected motivates me to keep working hard and pushing myself to the best of my abilities.

Marquez completed the soccer season as a sophomore this year.

I felt awarded and that the work I put in with the 2025-2026 team paid off,” Marquez explained.

Being chosen was a goal I have been working towards and a goal that has always been in the back of my mind every game.

Naranjo is a senior this year and was a captain for MCHS. He recently graduated and will be attending Merced College in the fall.

Being chosen for an All-Star game is an accomplishment that is earned through effort, commitment and hard work.

It takes time and nothing happens overnight,” Marcis said.

It’s important to seek opportunity and make the best of whatever it is.

Confidence is everything.

It’s important to be confident because confidence is the main priority in anything you do,” Garcia said.

The little things you do in training make a big difference over time. At some point you may think you’re not improving but as time goes by, you wake up and become the player you are.
