Masuda is best choice

Editor,

I’m writing in support of Michael Masuda for the U.S. Congress. Our upcoming primary and general elections are among the most important in our nation’s history.

California’s agriculture and tourism industries are in trouble. And our worsening cost of living crisis is hitting rural and small-town Americans particularly hard.

Masuda is an engineer and family man who grew up nearby in Amador County and still lives in our congressional district. Michael has pledged to fight congressional corruption and represent working Californians by supporting term limits, the ending of Citizens United and a code of judicial ethics for the US Supreme Court.

The foundation of Michael’s platform is to make life more affordable for working Californians, to protect our communities from wildfires, to support our rural and small-town economies and to fight the unwanted influences of Big Money.

As a rural Mariposa home and small business owner, I so strongly support Michael’s platform that I have volunteered my time to support his campaign as campaign captain for Mariposa County.

Masuda has been actively listening to his potential constituents. He has already shown up in person to over 30 town halls and meet and greets. And he has set up a web page for constituents to post questions and concerns at www.votemasuda.com/ blog. If you click on the “Join the Conversation tab” at the top of that page, you can tell Michael what issues you think are important for Mariposa County families and businesses.

On a related note, King Charles of Great Britain made an address for the ages to the U.S. Congress the other day. In his speech, King Charles reminded Congress of the importance of the separation of powers, democracy, alliances and that all citizens including kings, presidents and captains of industry, and not just working people, are beholden to the rule of law.

The king’s speech was respectful, informed, humorous, powerful and relatively short. I encourage everybody who is interested in democracy and the rule of law to listen to it.
