Teresa J. Sharp is the featured artist for July at the Mariposa Sierra Artists gallery located at 5031 Highway 140 in Mariposa.

Sharp’s paintings are inspired by her four years living in Japan and the scenery from Yosemite to the California coast. Her work includes watercolor koi and florals, as well as acrylic plein air paintings.

Story Swap slated for July 16

Story Swap at The Alley is the third Thursday of each month.

This month it will be July 16 starting at 6 p.m.

It is always an opportunity to practice telling a story — or listening to some.

KRYZ annual meeting set

The annual meeting of the KRYZ 98.5 FM Board of Directors is scheduled for Tuesday, July 21.

The meeting will be at 5 p.m. at the office of the Mariposa Gazette, 4989 Highway 140 in Mariposa.

The annual meeting will consist of election of board members up for two-year terms and the annual election of officers. That meeting will be followed by the regular monthly meeting of the board. The public is welcome to attend.

Caregivers set meetings

The Mariposa Caregivers Support Group will meet on Thursday, July 9 and Thursday, July 23 from 1-2:30 p.m. at the Mariposa Library.

The group is open to all caregivers.

Lake Don Pedro Baptist Church

Discover the true Light of the World! Kids ages four years old through 6th grade are invited to the most colorful, high-energy week of the summer at Lake Don Pedro Baptist Church. Monday, July 20-24 at 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at 4175 Abeto St., La Grange.

AUGUST

Radio workshop set Aug. 5

If you are curious about radio, an upcoming workshop will fit your needs.

KRYZ Radio will be presenting the workshop at the Mariposa County Library. It will be on Wednesday, Aug. 5 from 3:30-5 p.m.

The workshop will give participants hands-on experience in everything from creating a show to doing station IDs to seeing how programming works. It is free to participants and there is no registration required.

SEPTEMBER

Habitat fundraising dinner set

The Mariposa chapter of Habitat for Humanity will be holding a fundraising dinner. The dinner will be on Saturday, Sept. 12 from 5-7 p.m. at the Mariposa United Methodist Church.

It will be a lasagna dinner with sides. Also, there will be a wide variety of homemade desserts. Cost is $20 a person and $10 for children 12 and under.

GoFundMe for local woman

Mariposa woman Lyn Scrivens was in an unfortunate car accident a month ago. Scrivens is known from her Bootjack Stompers involvement. She is from Wales and doesn’t have a lot of family support in the United States.

A fundraiser has been established for her at www.gofundme.com/f/support-lyn-after-her-car-accident.

Airport board needs members

The Mariposa Airport Advisory Committee is now accepting applications for alternate positions on the board.

Anyone who may have an interest in supporting the Mariposa Yosemite Airport should contact board vice-chair, Roy Anderson, at androy51@gmail.com.

The group meets bi-monthly and works on various issues related to the airport.

Farmers’ Market

The Mariposa Certified Farmers’ Market is happening every Wednesday from May-October from 4:30- 6:30 p.m. at 5029 Stroming Road.

Come out and support your local farmers, ranchers and artisan bakers and makers. EBT is accepted market-wide.

The Way

“The Way” Bible based 12 step meeting meets every Tuesday at Happy Burger (5120 Highway 140) at 6:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome.

Trade AA and Narcotics meetings

Trade Recovery Center hosts Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) meetings and Narcotics Anonymous meetings for anyone seeking support in their recovery journey.

Whether you’re just starting your recovery or continuing your path, this is a safe, welcoming and confidential space to connect with others who understand.

AA meetings take place at Trade Recovery Center (5112 Bullion Street) on Thursdays from 6-7 p.m. and Saturdays from 5-6 p.m. Narcotics Anonymous meetings take place in the same location on Tuesdays from noon-1 p.m.

These meetings are open to anyone seeking support. Walk-ins are welcome and sign up is not required. Coffee and refreshments provided.

Bootjack Stompers

The Bootjack Stompers Hall provides Line Dancing instruction for advanced line dancers on Mondays at 5:30 p.m. and for beginning/intermediate line dancers on Tuesdays from 5:30-7 p.m. with line dance instructor Cheri Ridenhour.

We also provide Square Dancing workshops on Tuesdays for SSD/ Mainstream and Plus. SSD/Mainstream is at 7:15 – 8:15 p.m. and Plus is from 8:15 – 9:30 p.m. with Caller Rachel Phillips.

Beginning Square Dancer workshops (no prior experience) start each September.

The Hall is also for rent (by the hour or for longer term rentals).

Mariposa Beekeepers

Mariposa Beekeepers meet every third Monday of the month, March through October. Meetings are held at the Mariposa County Library from 7-8 p.m.

Wheelchairs needed

The Mariposa Yosemite Rotary Club is seeking old wheelchairs, crutches and walkers. The items will be used through the HERO Wheelchair Exchange program.

AA meetings

The How It Works Alcoholics Anonymous support group meets Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10 a.m. at the American Legion Hall on 5119 Bullion Street.

How It Works provides support and meetings designed for those seeking help for alcohol addiction and anyone interested in learning about the 12 step recovery model.

Lactation Lounge

Mariposa County Lactation Lounge takes place the second and fourth Thursday of each month from 10 a.m. to noon in the Mariposa County Library Community Room (4978 10th Street).

Come join the group for tea and baked goods and sit in on the community support circle for expecting and new parents.

Learn about the benefits of breastfeeding and receive support around common challenges while making lasting connections.

The Lactation Lounge is made possible through the collaborative efforts of California WIC and the Central California Alliance for Health.

Coulterville monthly Odd Market

Come buy or sell some odd treasures at the monthly Odd Market, every third Saturday from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at the IOOF hall, 5030 Main Street, Coulterville.

You never know what we will show you! Spaces are free (but donations are welcome) — all funds benefit the historic lodge building.

Books, books and books

Books Galore is a used bookstore in Mariposa County located at the Mariposa County Library.

Operated by the Mariposa County Friends of the Library, Books Galore offers a wide variety of books, DVDs, audio books and CDs at low prices.

The store is open two days a week: Mondays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Book donations are accepted every Monday and Friday in the bookstore.

Proceeds help support the Mariposa County Library System.

Quilting group meetings

The Mariposa PieceMakers Quilt group meets the second Saturday of each month at the Mariposa Lutheran Church.

The two-hour meeting begins at 9:15 a.m. and anyone interested in quilting regardless of sewing experience.

Republican Central Committee meetings

The Mariposa County Republican Central Committee meets monthly on the third Tuesday at 6 p.m. The location of the meeting is the American Legion Hall (5117 Bullion Street). The public is invited to attend.

AA and ALANON meetings

There are various Alcoholics Anonymous and ALANON meetings in Mariposa.

The Mariposa fellowship in Bootjack meets everyday at 7 p.m. There are noon meetings on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday.

A “how it works” AA group meets every Tuesday and Thursday at 10 a.m. at the American Legion Hall at 5117 Bullion Street.

There is a Yosemite Park meeting at the chapel on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6:30 p.m. Living with an alcoholic?

Family History Center

Everyone has a family tree, let us help you discover yours.

This free, ongoing event takes place on Wednesdays from 1-3:30 p.m. and evenings by appointment at the Family History Center, located at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (5546 Highway 49 North).

Toolbox4

”Toolbox4” is a new support group for people who walk alongside a family member or friend who struggles with emotional challenges.

Through discussion and teaching we gain tools to be more effective with our challenges.

The new “Toolbox4” meets at the Mariposa Lutheran Church (4469 Highway 140) on Wednesdays at 4 p.m. and the continuing “Toolbox6” will meet on Wednesdays at 6 p.m. Dinner is served for both groups at 5:30 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. For questions call (209) 966-3710.

Singles dining group

The 55 Plus Singles Dining Group meets the third Thursday of each month at 5:30 p.m. at various local restaurants. For information, call Cynthia Lee at (209) 769-6549.

Senior Center bingo & hall for rent

Play bingo at the Senior Center, 5256 Spriggs Lane, on the first Friday of every month.

Doors and kitchen open at 5 p.m. and games begin at 6:15 p.m. Everyone 18 or older is welcome and people are asked to arrive before the start of the first game. The hall is also available to rent for gatherings, parties and more.

Mariposa Mountain Riders

The Mariposa Mountain Riders meets every second Thursday at Happy Burger (5120 Highway 140) at 6 p.m.

Not a member? You can join at the meeting. Annual dues are $30 for individual or $40 for family.

The club’s focus includes preserving riding trails, promoting horsemanship, supporting legislation to benefit horsemen and providing horse related activities.

The group hosts trail rides several times a year and various events.

VFW meetings

Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 6042 meets on the second Thursday of the month at the VFW Hall, located at the intersection of Jones Street and Highway 140.

Dinner is served at 6 p.m. and meetings begin at 7.

Weekly Civil Air Patrol meetings

The Mariposa squadron of the Civil Air Patrol meets every Thursday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Mariposa Yosemite Airport, 5020 Macready Way.

The squadron welcomes cadets (12-18) and senior members (18 and up).

Fiber Arts group meetings

The Mariposa Fiber Arts group is an informal group that meets every Monday from 9 a.m. to noon at the Mariposa Senior Center (5246 Spriggs Lane). All skill levels are welcome. We knit, crochet, embroider, weave, felt spin yarn, embellish gourds — any thing fiber related.

Bingo

The American Legion Hall at Bullion and 12th streets in Mariposa will host bingo on the third Friday of the month. Doors open at 5:15 p.m. and bingo begins at 6:15 p.m.

Hot dogs, Polish dogs and chips will be sold.

Organizers encourage residents to come and help support local veterans. For more information, call (209) 966-3690.

American Legion meetings

American Legion Post 567 meets on the first Wednesday of each month at the American Legion Hall, located at 5117 Bullion Street in Mariposa. Dinner is served at 6 p.m. and meetings begin at 6:30 p.m. All veterans are welcome. The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 567 meets at 5 p.m. and dinner is served at 6 p.m.

UPPER ROOM Women’s Bible Study

The UPPER ROOM Ladies are still meeting! The location is Church of Christ (across from the DMV building) on the first and third Wednesday of each month, 10:30 a.m. to noon. ALL WOMEN are welcome! RSVP to Jean by calling (209) 966- 7792.

Support Manna House

Manna House continues to need monetary and food donations. Manna House is open Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and is located at 5127 Charles Street. They can be reached at (209) 742-7985.

UC Master Gardeners helpline

The Master Gardeners Helpline is available on Tuesdays 9 a.m. to noon and Thursdays 2 to 5 p.m.

Master Gardeners staff the Helpline and welcome home gardening questions of all types. If Gardeners can’t answer your question right away, they will research and get back to you as soon as possible. The Helpline can be accessed at (209) 966-7078 or mgmariposa@ucdavis.edu Home visits can also be arranged to look at the problem directly.

Sheriff’s Foundation accepting donations for animal control

The Mariposa County Sheriff’s Foundation accepts donations for Mariposa County Animal Control. Donations are tax-deductible and are earmarked for use by Animal Control.
