Madera County Sheriff’s Office personnel are pictured on April 29, known as “National Denim Day,” a national campaign in support of survivors of sexual assault. Denim Day began after a 1990s-era court case in Italy where a rape conviction was overturned because the judges argued the victim’s tight jeans implied consent. In response, people began wearing denim as a visible protest against victim-blaming and harmful myths about sexual violence.
