It’s time to cowboy up.
The third annual Cowboy Day is set for this Saturday at the Mariposa Museum and History Center.
The event will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with activities for the entire family. Admission to the event is $10 for adults while children under six are admitted free. Museum members are also admitted free.
There will be many vendors featured at Cowboy Day, from food to arts and crafts and much more.
The blacksmith shop at the museum will be up and running and there will also be a stamp mill demonstration.
Of course, people will also be able to visit the museum during the event. The Counts House and Gazette buildings will also be open.
Music will be featured throughout the day with several local bands performing.
And you can’t miss UPS Sue and Her Dancing Crew, a popular local ensemble.
Cowboy poetry will be back, led by local poet Wendy Brown.
A new feature this year is “Have Gun Will Travel Old Reenactment Shows,” which will feature some shootouts and other fun activities to entertain the crowd.
There are many activities for the younger crowd, as well, from face painting to balloons and much more.
The event has grown steadily since it began three years ago and this year, most of the grounds will have something, according to museum officials.
Proceeds from Cowboy Day go to help fund the museum, one of the highlights of Mariposa for visitors and local alike.
There are many programs which require funding, from historic preservation to the popular student docent program.
Currently, the museum is working to build a roof structure over the stamp mill, one of the key pieces of historic equipment at the museum.
