A California tradition dating back to the early 1980s and just miles from Yosemite National Park, the challenging race takes place in and around one of the most beautiful lakes in California.
The race has a rich history in the region.
At the dawn of triathlon, organizers said, the 1983 and 1984 USAT (then TriFed) and ISTS National Championships were held at Bass Lake where, “the sport was virtually invented.”
Now this iconic race will bring hundreds of participants and thousands of spectators to the waters and surrounds of Bass Lake for its 15th annual incarnation.
Following the race participants and others may enjoy a gourmet pasta dinner at the Bluegrass and BBQ Awards Post Race Party.
Miller’s Landing Resort at Bass Lake is set to sponsor the swim portion of the event and will provide lifeguards. Wetsuits will be allowed, organizers said. Water temperatures are expected to be in the upper 60s.
They’ll typically stage and finish on the beach in front of the pool at The Pines Resort. They Oly race starts at 7 a.m.
The bike course around Bass Lake will be monitored at intersections and turns by California Highway Patrol, volunteers and signs with black arrows on a yellow background.
There will be no aid stations on the bike course.
Aid stations on the run portion of the race are at the start of the run, the midpoint of the run and the far turnaround of the run. The Sprint course has four aid stations and the Oly has eight.
David Braun of Meridian Mile Sports Photography will be on course to take race photos.
