Saturday music performance to feature song dedicated to pair of beloved dogs

This Saturday, Aug. 8, the Mariposa community will hear the first public performance of “Two Wounded Hearts,” an original song inspired by two beloved dogs, Abundance and Hauser.

The song will be performed at Music on the Green by Cary Greenamyer and the musicians performing with him. The performance will bring a true story of love, grief, animal rescue and healing to the community.

The people of Mariposa are witnesses to Abundance’s life.

Many people in town saw him, knew him and witnessed the deep love he shared with our family. Abundance was not simply a pet. He was a companion, a source of comfort and a treasured member of our home.

When Abundance passed away, he left behind an enormous silence and a wounded heart.

The second wounded heart belongs to Hauser.

For seven and a half years, Hauser believed he had a permanent family and a safe home. He believed he would be loved forever. After a baby was born into the household, Hauser lost the only family and home he had known.

Confused and heartbroken, he was surrendered to an SPCA organization in Los Angeles.

We offer our heartfelt gratitude to Demetrio Gomez who is responsible for adoptions at the Los Angeles SPCA, and to the entire team that protected and cared for Hauser during this painful transition. Their compassion gave him safety, dignity and the opportunity to begin again.

Hauser was later adopted and became a companion during a time of profound grief.

Two wounded hearts — one grieving the loss of a beloved animal and another grieving the loss of his family — began comforting and healing one another.

Although Hauser was not adopted from the SPCA of Mariposa County, this song also gives us an opportunity to recognize the important work being done for animals in Mariposa.

We express our sincere gratitude to Jeanette Lozano, President of the SPCA of Mariposa County, and to the shelter team, volunteers and supporters whose dedication helps protect animals and give them new possibilities.

Their work is an important service to the town and deserves the community’s appreciation and support.

“Two Wounded Hearts” is more than a song. It is an invitation to understand that adopting an animal is a lifetime commitment.

Animals experience attachment, security, fear, confusion, abandonment and grief. When families experience changes, animals should not become disposable or forgotten.

They deserve patience, responsibility and every reasonable effort to keep them safely with the people they trust.

The song also honors shelter workers, rescue organizations, volunteers, adopters and community members who give abandoned animals a second chance.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to singer Greg Wong ,whose voice will bring the story to life; to Cary Greenamyer, Billy Dewitt and to all the participating musicians for sharing this message with the Mariposa community.

Through this performance, Abundance’s memory and Hauser’s journey can help educate others and inspire greater compassion for animals.

The community is invited to listen and remember that even wounded hearts can begin to heal when they are met with kindness, commitment and love.
