The Coarsegold Mutton Busting Series kicks off its third season on June 13.
Mutton busting is a popular youth rodeo event where kids see who can stay on a running sheep the longest. The activity is a crowd favorite at county fairs and rodeos and can serve as a gateway event to adult rodeo.
Organizers in Coarsegold this year are welcoming riders four through eight years old weighing under 60 pounds to join in the first event of the season.
“This isn’t just a ride,” said Coarsegold Rodeo Grounds owner Melissa Steward. “It’s the start of a summer filled with memories, excitement and the opportunity to qualify for our Harvest Rodeo Championship Round on Oct. 17.”
Events are set for June 13, July 25 and Aug. 15 at the rodeo grounds. The cost is $50 per event or $140 for membership which covers all three events.
