Senior night was full of special moments as the Mariposa County High School Grizzlies varsity baseball team hosted a double-header with the Modesto Christian Crusaders on March 23 at Ed Vegely Field.

Modesto Christian struck first scoring one run in the first inning and two runs in the third.

The score was 3-0 for the Crusaders until the fifth inning when the Grizzlies stopped Modesto Christian in their tracks.

MCHS put up seven runs and added three more in the sixth, taking the win 10-3.

The second game was for the seniors, as all of them (minus Laten Butler due to injury) were on the field to start the game.

Seniors on the team this season are Butler, Mason Bissmeyer, Ben Lingenfelter, Brady Arebalo, Carmine Sandoval, Hayden Hill, Timmy Roberts-McDougall, Drew Canter. Alexander Janitz.

I’ve coached this group since they were seventh graders,” said coach Josh Collins.

To see the growth from them now, it’s pretty special.

The Grizzlies lit up the score sheet with contributions from everyone in the lineup, which led to their 17th consecutive win with a score of 8-1.

Lingenfelter spent all seven innings on the mound where he earned a no-hitter while throwing a total of 99 pitches.

He had one hit, one RBI and a double.

Bissmeyer had a big night with a home run, two hits, two runs and an RBI.

Hill went 3-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and a double.

Arebalo had his first stolen base of the season and he also scored a run.

Janitz finished the game with one run, one hit and a double while Canter recorded an RBI.

Sandoval continues to be consistent with one hit, one RBI and a stolen base while Roberts-McDougall recorded one hit, one run and a stolen base.

Our philosophy here is we’re not here to make good baseball players but we’re here to make good young men,” Collins said.

I have full faith that every one of them is going to go on to do great things in their lives. I’m really excited for them.

After the wins over Modesto Christian, the Grizzlies sat with a record of 12-0 in league.

MCHS faced their final opponent of the regular season, Le Grand, on April 28 in Le Grand.

Results were not available at press time.

The Grizzlies will wrap up the regular season against Le Grand at MCHS on April 30.

Game time is 4 p.m.

“We have to execute on all aspect,” Collins said.

They know what this means and they’ve been doing the work to take care of business.
