Susan Mitchell-Van Slyke is a California mixed media artist residing in Mariposa.
Her current work, the “Wonder Series” is inspired by the rhythm of life in the Sierra Nevada oak woodlands. Along with mixed media paintings, she will be showing her fiber art for the first time at the Sierra Artists Gallery located at 5031 Highway 140 in Mariposa.
Caregivers Support Group
The Mariposa Caregivers Support Group will meet on Thursday, May 14 and Thursday, May 28 from 1-2:30 p.m. at the Mariposa County Library.

MCHS ABC fundraiser
The Mariposa County High School Academic Boosters Club (MCHS ABC) will host a fundraiser at Pizza Factory on Friday, May 15 at dinner time.
ABC’s programs include teacher/group requests, valedictorian dinner, academic achievement night and personal best awards among others. The fundraiser, which will support ABCs programs, is open to everyone. Bring your family for dinner and help support MCHS ABC.
Spring concert
At 2:30 p.m. on May 16, the Gold Country Singers will be presenting a Spring Concert in a new venue: The Mine Shaft, 3473 Merced Falls Road in Don Pedro.
The theme of this year’s concert is “The Rhythm of Life.” As always, it is free of charge and there will be refreshments following the event. The bar will be open for beverage purchases. Join us for an afternoon of joyous singing and light refreshments.
Battery recycling drive
The Rotary Club of Mariposa and the Mariposa Interact Club are targeting households in the community and offering a lithium-ion battery recycling drive on May 16 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Mariposa County High School.
Bring your old batteries, cell phones, laptops, tablets, power tools, electric toothbrushes, wireless headphones, vaping devices and any other rechargeable device with a lithium-ion battery for recycling.
Concert
The Mariposa Community Chorus and the Mariposa Children’s Choir together will have a concert on Saturday, May 16 at 2 p.m. at Mariposa County High School’s Fiester Auditorium.

The Ponderosa Basin will host Michael Masuda, candidate for congress, at the home of Susan and Dan Flaming on Tuesday, May 19 from 4- 6 p.m.

Preparing for the Golden Years
Preparing for the Golden Years, Part Two will have expert speakers who will address the inevitable challenges of aging with straight talk for families and heirs.
Part two will focus on hospice, in-house care and care facilities as well as information on services offered by Area 12 Agency on Aging.

Assessor/Recorder forum
The Mariposa Democratic Club will be hosting a candidates forum for those running to be Assessor/Recorder of Mariposa County.
The forum will be held at the Board of Supervisors Chambers, 5100 Bullion St. on May 21 at 5:30 p.m. The event is open to the public.
The Mariposa Democratic Club has invited the candidates running for this seat, Tammie Guenthart and Jenifer Canter, so the public can learn about their backgrounds, qualifications and visions for the office and the county.

Featured Artist
Veronica Rowney Gross is the featured artist for June at the Sierra Artists Gallery in downtown Mariposa (5031 Highway 140).
Her primary medium has been transparent watercolors preferring the plein air approach. Since moving back to Mariposa after living in the Bay Area and spending 30 years teaching high school art, she has been inspired by the landscapes of the Sierra foothills and high country.

Trade Recovery Center hosts Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) meetings and Narcotics Anonymous meetings for anyone seeking support in their recovery journey.
Whether you’re just starting your recovery or continuing your path, this is a safe, welcoming and confidential space to connect with others who understand.
AA meetings take place at Trade Recovery Center (5112 Bullion Street) on Thursdays from 6-7 p.m. and Saturdays from 5-6 p.m. Narcotics Anonymous meetings take place in the same location on Tuesdays from noon-1 p.m. These meetings are open to anyone seeking support. Walk-ins are welcome and sign up is not required. Coffee and refreshments provided.

Bootjack Stompers
The Bootjack Stompers Hall provides Line Dancing instruction for advanced line dancers on Mondays at 5:30 p.m. and for beginning/intermediate line dancers on Tuesdays from 5:30- 7 p.m. with line dance instructor Cheri Ridenhour.
We also provide Square Dancing workshops on Tuesdays for SSD/Mainstream and Plus. SSD/Mainstream is at 7:15 – 8:15 p.m. and Plus is from 8:15 – 9:30 p.m. with Caller Rachel Phillips. Beginning Square Dancer workshops (no prior experience) start each September. Mariposa Beekeepers meet every third Monday of the month, March through October. Meetings are held at the Mariposa County Library from 7-8 p.m.
Wheelchairs needed
The Mariposa Yosemite Rotary Club is seeking old wheelchairs, crutches and walkers.

Books Galore is a used bookstore in Mariposa County located at the Mariposa County Library. Operated by the Mariposa County Friends of the Library, Books Galore offers a wide variety of books, DVDs, audio books and CDs at low prices.
The store is open two days a week: Mondays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Book donations are accepted every Monday and Friday in the bookstore.
Proceeds help support the Mariposa County Library System.
Quilting group meetings
The Mariposa PieceMakers Quilt group meets the second Saturday of each month at the Mariposa Lutheran Church. The two-hour meeting begins at 9:15 a.m. and anyone interested in quilting regardless of sewing experience. For more information, call Kim Tucker at (209) 966-4953.
Republican Central Committee meetings
The Mariposa County Republican Central Committee meets monthly on the third Tuesday at 6 p.m.

There are various Alcoholics Anonymous and ALANON meetings in Mariposa. The Mariposa fellowship in Bootjack meets everyday at 7 p.m. There are noon meetings on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday.

Weekly Civil Air Patrol meetings
The Mariposa squadron of the Civil Air Patrol meets every Thursday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Mariposa-Yosemite Airport, 5020 Macready Way.

The American Legion Hall at Bullion and 12th streets in Mariposa will host bingo on the third Friday of the month. The Master Gardeners Helpline is available on Tuesdays 9 a.m. to noon and Thursdays 2 to 5 p.m.

Sheriff’s Foundation accepting donations for animal control
The Mariposa County Sheriff’s Foundation accepts donations for Mariposa County Animal Control. Donations are tax-deductible and are earmarked for use by Animal Control. Donate by mailing a check to the Mariposa County Sheriff’s Foundation, P.O. Box 5008-158, Mariposa, CA 95338 with “Animal Control” in the “for” section.

Mariposa Museum and History Center volunteers needed
The Mariposa Museum & History Center is always looking for volunteers who are interested in donating their time at the museum.
There are a variety of tasks or roles you can volunteer for, such as docent, tour guide, maintenance, landscaping, research, gift shop, board member and more.
