A single vehicle crash in Eastern Madera County sent the driver and his passenger to the hospital and snarled traffic for a time on Monday, Sept. 14. The collision occurred just after 3:30 p.m. when it was reported a vehicle had hit a tree near the intersection of Highway 41 and Road 415 in Coarsegold. CHP identified the driver as Steven Frank, 78, of Coarsegold. Officials said Frank crashed his Subaru Forester and was reported to have been driving recklessly before the crash. He was carrying an unidentified passenger. While the incident was initially thought to include the vehicle catching fire, CHP said it did not. First responders were able to extricate both parties. Both Frank and his passenger sustained major injuries and were transported to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno. The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
