MY Club members enjoyed a special day centered on sports, enrichment and healthy habits thanks to the generous support of the Yosemite Sequoia Resource Conservation and Development Council (YSRCDC).
MY Club’s Kids Day was held on Friday, Aug. 21. MY Club is an Eastern Madera County area program for kids and teens run by the longstanding Mountain Area Youth Organization (MAYO).
Club members partook in basketball, football, golf and volleyball activities designed to introduce them to new skills while encouraging teamwork and physical activity.
“Each of our MY Club locations participated in the celebration and received specially made Kids Day shirts,” said Darhinka
Medina, community relations director for the organization.
MY Club currently provides free after-school programming for TK through eighth-grade club members at Oakhurst Elementary, Oak Creek Intermediate, Wasuma Elementary, Coarsegold Elementary and Rivergold Elementary. The clubs remain open after school until 6 p.m.
“The response from members and families was incredibly positive with some even asking whether Kids Day could become a monthly event,” Medina added.
The verdict was unanimous.
“MY Club Kids Day was a fantastic event,” said Brandi Sneed, regional program specialist.
“Thanks to Yosemite Sequoia RC&D Council we were able to have a day filled with lots of fun activities focusing on sports! It was incredible to see all of our members engaging in enrichment activities that taught them the fundamentals of basketball, football, golf and volleyball.”
Members proudly sported their Kids Day shirts and not only learn new sports but also develop a greater understanding of healthy habits.
“We’re so thankful this opportunity allowed us at MY Club to put on an entire day where members could explore new skills and healthy habits,” said Sneed.
MY Club programs include Focus 40 homework assistance, Keeping Fit physical activities, Taste Makers cooking, Amplify music, Curtain Call theatre, arts and crafts, STEM activities and SPARKS and Sprouts leadership development.
MY Club also operates the Teen Center across from Yosemite High School in Oakhurst, providing students with a safe place to spend time after school, receive tutoring, participate in workshops and activities and connect with peers.
