April’s Featured Artist is Rosalie Thurston.
Rosalie Thurston has always had a passion for art, from crafts and sewing to creative design.
Three years ago, she discovered painting, opening a new world of creative expression. Now a professional painter, Rosalie shares her talent through vibrant works inspired by Yosemite and historic Mariposa, capturing both the beauty of the landscape and her own imaginative journey. The Sierra Artists Gallery is located at 5031 Highway 140 in Mariposa.
Facelift slated for April 11
Mariposa Facelift is set to go on Saturday, April 11. It’s a full day of community, stewardship and celebration.
Start the morning with donation-based yoga at 7:15 a.m., then help clean up Mariposa town from 8.a.m–noon. L&J’s Tacos will be onsite from 11 a.m.–1 p.m., followed by a raffle at 12:30 p.m. Wrap up the day at The Grove House with a fundraiser after party featuring live music from Water Tower from 7-10 p.m.

Gem and Mineral Show
The Mariposa Gem and Mineral Show will take place April 11 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and April 12 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Mariposa County Fairgrounds.
Admission is $5 for adults and 14 and under are free. Parking is free. The California State Mining and Mineral Museum will be open during the show and admission is $4.
Spring Artisans Show
Support local artists at the Bootjack Stompers Spring Artisans Show on April 11 and 12, Saturday/Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m at 4662 Mormon Bar Crossing in Mariposa.
Free admission and parking. We will have wonderful crafts, art, jewelry, baked goods and T-shirts celebrating the 250th anniversary of the country and a photo opportunity.
Featured outdoor food vendor is Beverlyville Indian Tacos.
Master Gardeners Webinar
Plant Once, Harvest Forever: Perennial Vegetable Explained will take place Tuesday, April 14, from 6-7:30 p.m.
This is a free Zoom webinar open to all. Understand what perennial vegetables are and why they matter for resilient, low-input food systems. Identify key perennial vegetables suitable for different climates and garden scales.
Apply basic strategies for planting, maintaining and harvesting perennial vegetables successfully. Presented by the UC Master Gardeners of Mariposa County.

Ladies Tea
Soroptimist International of Mariposa is having their annual Ladies Tea on April 18 from noon to 3 p.m. at the Mariposa Senior Center (5246 Spriggs Lane).
Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for children 12 and under.
Tickets can be purchased from Soroptimist members or at Happy Burger. Wear your “Sunday Best” and come enjoy assorted teas, finger sandwiches, desserts and silent auction.
Catheys Valley Homecoming
The 2026 Catheys Valley Homecoming is set for April 18 at McCay Hall (2820 Highway 140) from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Opening ceremony and flag raising will be at 10 a.m.
The event will have activities for the whole family including a corn hole tournament and vendor booths to visit.
Lunch will be served by the Catheys Valley Historical Society for $10 each.
The meal includes a hamburger, chips and pasta salad with drinks (tea, water and lemonade) being sold by the Catheys Valley Baptist Church.
Catheys Valley 4-H will be hosting a dessert bake sale.
Proceeds stay local to support various groups in Catheys Valley.
Free health screening
A free community health screening event by Shantikunj of North America will take place April 18 from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Mariposa County Fairgrounds.
The Health screening includes blood pressure, blood glucose, A1c and lipid panel and PEFR. There will be a presentation by Dr. Balu Gadhe.
Breakfast will be available to pre-registered participants.
There are only 120 screening available. Pre-register by April 11.

Shredding event scheduled
An event where local residents and businesses can shred documents is set for April 18 at the Methodist Church in Mariposa. It will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the church parking lot, located at 6th and Bullion streets.
All documents will be shredded securely and people can watch it happen. There is a suggested donation of $8 per standard file size box. Call (209) 966-3419 for more information.
Yosemite Wranglers
The 75th Yosemite Wranglers reunion will take place April 19 with setup at 9 a.m. followed by a short business meeting at 11 a.m.
The reunion will take place at McCay Hall in Catheys Valley (2820 Highway 140). Bring your favorite dish for the potluck lunch along with an auction item.
The auction/fundraiser will take place after lunch. Cash or check only. Visit with old friends and catch up with current employees while promoting horse and mule operations in Yosemite.

Preparing for the Golden Years
Preparing for the Golden Years, Part One will have expert speakers who will address the inevitable challenges of aging with straight talk for families and heirs.
Part One will focus on trusts, wills and other legal topics, as well as information on burial and cremation. Part One will take place Wednesday, April 22, at the Mariposa Senior Center, 5246 Spriggs Lane, from 5:30 – 7 p.m.

Paint Out
Celebrate creativity and the natural beauty of historic Mariposa at the Mariposa Paint Out April 22-April 26 to observe over 30 working artists who have come from near and far to be inspired by the town of Mariposa.
A map of scenic locations where you may find artists at work will be available at the Sierra Artists Gallery (corner of Highway 140 & 6th Street). On Sunday at noon, all are invited to the county government center (5100 Bullion Street) to view an exhibit of the artwork submitted for cash awards. Judges, participating artists and visitors will select the winners.
Following the awards ceremony, there will be an off-the-easel wet paint sale of the artwork created over the weekend.

Annual Spring Plant Sale
UC Master Gardeners of Mariposa County are hosting the Annual Spring Plant Sale on Saturday, April 25 from 8 a.m. to noon at the Mariposa County Fairgrounds/Amigo Stage area.
Mosquito Fish available ($5.00) bring cooler. Veggies, CA Natives, herbs, annuals, perennials and more. Cash or check only. Bring boxes to transport plants.
FFA Boosters
The 30th Annual FFA Boosters Dinner Dance will take place on Saturday, April 25 at the Mariposa County Fairgrounds.
The theme this year is Bourbon Street Bash and doors open at 5 p.m. with a prime rib dinner served at 6:30. There will be a hosted bar. Must be 21 or older to attend. Trade AA and Narcotics meetings
Trade Recovery Center hosts Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) meetings and Narcotics Anonymous meetings for anyone seeking support in their recovery journey.
Whether you’re just starting your recovery or continuing your path, this is a safe, welcoming and confidential space to connect with others who understand.
AA meetings take place at Trade Recovery Center (5112 Bullion Street) on Thursdays from 6-7 p.m. and Saturdays from 5-6 p.m.
Narcotics Anonymous meetings take place in the same location on Tuesdays from noon-1 p.m. These meetings are open to anyone seeking support. Walk-ins are welcome and sign up is not required. Coffee and refreshments provided.

Mariposa Beekeepers
Mariposa Beekeepers meet every third Monday of the month, March through October. Meetings are held at the Mariposa County Library from 7-8 p.m.
Wheelchairs needed
The Mariposa Yosemite Rotary Club is seeking old wheelchairs, crutches and walkers.
The items will be used through the HERO Wheelchair Exchange program. People who want to donate, or those who need a wheelchair, should call Dave Wise at (209) 742-7004.

The How It Works Alcoholics Anonymous support group meets Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10 a.m. at the American Legion Hall on 5119 Bullion Street.
How It Works provides support and meetings designed for those seeking help for alcohol addiction and anyone interested in learning about the 12 step recovery model.
Lactation Lounge
Mariposa County Lactation Lounge takes place the second and fourth Thursday of each month from 10 a.m. to noon in the Mariposa County Library Community Room (4978 10th Street).
Come join the group for tea and baked goods and sit in on the community support circle for expecting and new parents. Learn about the benefits of breastfeeding and receive support around common challenges while making lasting connections. The Lactation Lounge is made possible through the collaborative efforts of California WIC and the Central California Alliance for Health.
Coulterville monthly Odd Market
Come buy or sell some odd treasures at the monthly Odd Market, every third Saturday from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at the IOOF hall, 5030 Main Street, Coulterville.

Books, books and books
Books Galore is a used bookstore in Mariposa County located at the Mariposa County Library. Operated by the Mariposa County Friends of the Library, Books Galore offers a wide variety of books, DVDs, audio books and CDs at low prices. The store is open two days a week: Mondays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Book donations are accepted every Monday and Friday in the bookstore. Proceeds help support the Mariposa County Library System.
Quilting group meetings
The Mariposa PieceMakers Quilt group meets the second Saturday of each month at the Mariposa Lutheran Church.

Republican Central Committee meetings
The Mariposa County Republican Central Committee meets monthly on the third Tuesday at 6 p.m. The location of the meeting is the American Legion Hall (5117 Bullion Street). The public is invited to attend.
Monthly Dem meetings
The Mariposa Democratic Club will be conducting monthly meetings to address “The State of the Country.”

AA and ALANON meetings
There are various Alcoholics Anonymous and ALANON meetings in Mariposa. The Mariposa fellowship in Bootjack meets everyday at 7 p.m. There are noon meetings on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday.
The women’s group meets Wednesday at 6 p.m. and the men meet Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. The 24-hour hotline is (209) 966-3110 and the website is www.aamariposafellowship.org. Zoom meetings are available; see the website for details. A “how it works” AA group meets every Tuesday and Thursday at 10 a.m. at the American Legion Hall at 5117 Bullion Street.

Weekly Civil Air Patrol meetings
The Mariposa squadron of the Civil Air Patrol meets every Thursday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Mariposa-Yosemite Airport, 5020 Macready Way.

Fiber Arts group meetings
The Mariposa Fiber Arts group meets the second and fourth Mondays of the month from 9 a.m. to noon.
Meetings are in the Senior Center activity room at 5246 Spriggs Lane. The group does knitting, crocheting, needlepoint, weave and more. The group welcomes anyone who is fully vaccinated.

The American Legion Hall at Bullion and 12th streets in Mariposa will host bingo on the third Friday of the month.

UC Master Gardeners helpline
The Master Gardeners Helpline is available on Tuesdays 9 a.m. to noon and Thursdays 2 to 5 p.m.
Master Gardeners staff the Helpline and welcome home gardening questions of all types. If Gardeners can’t answer your question right away, they will research and get back to you as soon as possible. The Helpline can be accessed at (209) 966-7078, mgmariposa@ucdavis.edu or at 5009 Fairgrounds Road.
Home visits can also be arranged to look at the problem directly.
Sheriff’s Foundation accepting donations for animal control
The Mariposa County Sheriff’s Foundation accepts donations for Mariposa County Animal Control.
Donations are tax-deductible and are earmarked for use by Animal Control.
Donate by mailing a check to the Mariposa County Sheriff’s Foundation, P.O. Box 5008-158, Mariposa, CA 95338 with “Animal Control” in the “for” section.
To donate via credit card or PayPal, visit www.mariposacsf.org and choose “support animal control.”
Donations in increments of $25 are available for selection.
Mariposa Museum and History Center volunteers needed
The Mariposa Museum & History Center is always looking for volunteers who are interested in donating their time at the museum.
There are a variety of tasks or roles you can volunteer for, such as docent, tour guide, maintenance, landscaping, research, gift shop, board member and more.
