Local nonprofit Caring Veterans of America is planning a Veterans Stand Down on Saturday, Sept. 12 from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at The Grove Church (42461 Highway 49) in Ahwahnee.
A veterans stand down is a community-based event where veterans, including those who are unhoused and at risk, receive support.
The Stand Down at The Grove is open to all. Organizers promise veterans free lunch and drinks, free personal care items, free haircuts and free gear. Veterans must have VA/Military identification or a DD214 form on hand.
Advisors will be on site to answer questions, help navigate and provide assistance on subjects including housing, health, jobs, legal issues and VA benefits.
The Usual Riff Raff will play live music during the uplifting event.
Supporting businesses for the stand down include Bee’s Bakery Café, Mountain Oaks Café, Tractor Supply, Oakhurst Grocery Outlet, Pak & Page, Rusty Piston, Sullivan’s Tires, Bryant’s Ace Hardware, Sun Mountain Gun Club, His Church (Pastor Cody), Fresno VA and Fresno County VSO.
Caring Veterans of America is dedicated to supporting military veterans and their families by connecting them with local resources, assisting with veteran benefits and hosting community events and outreach.
