A highly recognizable business in Mariposa County is getting a fresh start.
Dar’s Rock Shop, located between Mariposa and Catheys Valley on the highly-traveled Highway 140, will celebrate a “reopening” at noon on April 12. Formerly Dials Rock Shop, it is located at 4006 Highway 140.
“Come help celebrate a grand reopening of one of our community favorites,” said Darcie Layhee, the new owner of the business, a true local roadside attraction.
The roots of the place date back to the establishment in 1943 by the Mariposa Mining Company.
The building has been a staple for tourists and locals alike for years and was first opened as a rock shop in 1956. It features local rocks, gems, fossils and more.
The business will be open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m to 7 p.m.
There will be a lot of items featured at the store. Those include local gems, crystals, vintage mining books and magazines, consignment opportunities and more.
They also will have vintage sports cards and stamps by consignment. There will be jewelry, native art and quilts. Shipping will be available from the store.
The store will also sell firewood.
“Enjoy,” concluded Layhee.
