Grizzlies varsity softball at Mariposa County High School had their winning streak snapped last week as they were shutout by the Knights from Stone Ridge Christian on April 1.
The varsity squad had gone 4-0 in league after facing Denair, Delhi, Gustine and Waterford.
“We have been doing a much better job at executing and moving our runners that we are getting on,” said coach Kiya Smith.
“We’re not only doing well with bunts but we’re also starting to hit consistently through the lineup.”
After defeating Delhi 13-1 on March 20, MCHS had a huge win over Gustine (12-2) on March 25.
The Grizzlies next victim was Waterford on March 30 where the final score was 18-7 leaving MCHS with their fourth consecutive win.
Kallie Wass recorded three runs, two hits, three RBI and one double.
Kylee Hutchings put up two hits and four RBI while Taylor Krull had a hit, two runs, two RBI and a double.
Grace Beery put up two runs, two hits and one RBI.
Mikaylee Martin scored three runs while recording two hits and two RBI.
“Every person in the lineup brings something valuable to the plate,” Smith explained.
“That is what is leading to our success.”
The Grizzlies hosted the Knights from Stone Ridge Christian on April 1 on Grizzly Field where MCHS was shutout 8-0.
“Stone Ridge had a solid pitcher who relied on her riseball and we lacked the discipline to wait for something in our zone,” the coach said.
“But now we know what we need to do when we face them again in just a few weeks.”
As the team heads into spring break, they’re already anticipating their next game against Le Grand (5-0).
“Going into preparation for LeGrand/the rest of our season, we are still focusing on eliminating defensive errors but also having discipline at the plate,” Smith said.
“We want to continue making adjustments during the game based on what we are seeing from the pitcher.”
Next up, the Grizzlies will travel to Le Grand to take the field against the Bulldogs on April 15.
Game time is 4 p.m.
