John C. Fremont Healthcare District took top honors in the annual Labor Day Parade held last Saturday morning in downtown Mariposa.
Each year, the Mariposa Lions Club presents the parade, which goes down Highway 140 with the judge’s stand next to Fremont House.
Second place went to the Southern Sierra Miwuk Nation while “Mortgage Cowboy” Jeff Bubenchik was third.
Honorable mentions went to horse rider Karen Kisela, the Mariposa County Sheriff’s Office, The Bristow Girls and Dave Mitchell and his 1957 Chevy.
The judges this year were Lianne (Silver) Moseley, Bruce Jamgotchian and Jennifer (Lincoln) Martucci, who lives in South Carolina but came to town for the class reunion.
In fact, Martucci had requested to be a parade judge — and for very good reason.
When she was growing up in Mariposa, Lincoln walked for many years in the parade with her baton. She never stopped and tossed the baton in the air for the judges.
One reason was each year, her sister walked with her and that was her focus.
Mariposa County Supervisor Jenni Kiser performed her announcing duties at the parade.
Organizers said it was a dream come true for Martucci to be able to judge the parade.
The Clampers are always on hand to participate in the parade and show their patriotism.
The Southern Sierra Miwuk Nation had representatives in the parade, promoting the group’s annual pow wow on Mother’s Day Weekend.

It would be impossible to think of a parade without the presence of Smoky Bear, a symbol of fire prevention for generations.
