It’s official.
Madera County stakeholders gathered on May 1 to break ground on the landmark Highway 41 expansion project.
The undertaking is the single largest roads project in the county’s history.
The board of supervisors along with local, state and national dignitaries celebrated the event by showcasing the growth and expansion of Eastern Madera County and digging in to begin paving “a new path forward for one of the most traveled expressways in the entire region.”
The board of supervisors last month unanimously approved the expansion project to widen Highway 41 between Avenue 10 ½ and Avenue 15 to four lanes.
The $130 million expansion will also include a new bridge over Avenue 11 southbound, an improved signal at Avenue 12 and modify an existing signal at Avenue 15.
Completion is currently set for May 2028.
Officials said no existing lanes will be blocked or rerouted during construction.
“(This project is) the gateway to our home, this is a gateway to the most fertile ag land in California and the world and the gateway to some of the most vibrant recreational opportunities in California,” said District 5 Supervisor and Board Chair Bobby Macaulay.
“This is our home and it’s the gateway to Madera County.”
Included in the groundbreaking ceremony were Nabeelah Abi-Rached Jamie Bax, Jared Carter, Jim Costa, Leticia Gonzalez, Bryan Kroeger, Jim Leppo, Bobby Macaulay, Robert Poythress, David Rogers, Andrea Saldate, Jose Silva, Patricia Taylor, Matthew Treber, Dominic Tyburski, Jordan Wamhoff and Tom Wheeler.
