The Madera County Elections Office on June 18 shared additional results of the June 2 primary.
In Eastern Madera County the race is for District 5 supervisor representing residents in Oakhurst, Coarsegold, Bass Lake, North Fork, O’Neals, Raymond and Ahwahnee and those to the south on Highway 41 stretching to Tesoro Viejo.
Frank Bigelow remained in the lead with 47.22 percent of the vote followed by Melanie “Mel” Barker with 25.21 percent.
Bigelow now has 5,367 votes compared to 2,865 for Barker.
Candidate Charles “Brook” Allen was in third place with 16.39 percent and 1,863 votes.
Candidate Mark S. Reed, Jr. was last with 11.18 percent and 1,271 votes. A total of 11,366 votes were cast in the race for District 5 supervisor.
Bigelow and Barker will vie for the District 5 seat in the November general election as neither candidate has yet earned the required 50 percent plus one vote.
Current Supervisor Robert “Bobby” Macaulay did not seek reelection.
In the race for District 1 county supervisor, incumbent Jordan Wamhoff received 85.78 percent of the votes for a total of 5,972 at this time, while candidate Benjamin J. Martin received 14.22 percent with 990 votes. A total of 6,962 votes were cast.
Incumbent District 2 supervisor David Rogers received 64.17 percent with 3,096 votes while challenger John Chavez, Jr. received 35.83 percent with 1,729 votes for a total of 4,825 votes cast.
Tricia M. Protzman ran unopposed for the position as county superintendent of schools. She was appointed to the job by the county board of education in 2025 to complete the remainder of her predecessor’s term.
Protzman in the primary election received 20,825 votes in her favor.
Incumbent assessor Brett Frazier ran unopposed and so far received 24,162 votes.
Incumbent auditor-controller David E. Richstone received 17,505 votes for 67.38 percent with challenger Anthony R. Forestiere receiving 8,476 votes for 32.62 percent. The total vote cast was 25,981.
Rebecca Martinez will remain county clerk-recorder as she ran unopposed, receiving 24,896 votes.
Incumbent tax collector-treasurer Tracy Kennedy also ran unopposed and received 24,663 votes.
In the congressional race for District 5, incumbent Republican Tom McClintock was still ahead in Madera County with 64.30 percent of votes at 16,290 while Democrat Michael Masuda received 5,469 votes for 21.59 percent.
Democrats Michael J. “Mike” Barkley received 9.83 percent of votes with 2,491 and Dan Stroud received 1,085. The total number of votes cast was 25,335.
In the race for congress in District 13, incumbent Democrat Adam Gray received 2,104 votes for 40.27 percent in the county while Republican Kevin Lincoln received 1,775 votes for 33.97 percent.
With more than 60 candidates on the ballot in the race for California’s governor as Gavin Newsom is termed-out, Republican candidate Steve Hilton received 40.55 percent of the votes in Madera County with 13,109.
Republican Chad Bianco received 16.95 percent of the votes in the county with 5,479.
Democrat Xavier Becerra received 19.26 percent of the votes in Madera County with 6,226.
The total number of votes cast in the race for governor of the Golden State in Madera County so far is 32,331.
Trailing behind in the county and statewide is billionaire Democrat Tom Steyer who appears to have spent a record $213-216 million of his own money on a campaign which so far has resulted in just 14.53 percent of the votes in Madera County at 4,699.
Candidates altogether reportedly spent over $316 million to convince voters to cast ballots in their favor.
Hilton and Becerra both advance to the November general election.
In the contest for lieutenant governor Republican Gloria Romero is ahead in Madera County with 26.61 percent of the votes at 8,114.
Republican David Collenberg received 14.19 percent with 4,325 votes while Republican David Fennell received 12.09 percent with 3,685 votes.
Democrat Josh Fryday received 12.14 percent with 3,700 votes. Democrat Fiona Ma received 11.08 percent of votes at 3,378.
The winning candidate in November will replace termed out Eleni Kounalakis. A total of 30,478 votes were cast for lieutenant governor in Madera County.
As of Thursday evening there were 32,619 ballots cast out of 82,432 registered voters in Madera County for a total of 39.57 percent of voters weighing in.
The results were set to be updated again on Friday, June 26, 2026.
The elections office must certify results and submit them to the state by July 3. The secretary of state’s final statement of vote is required for completion by July 10.
