Only minor injures were reported following a wreck this past Saturday that closed the main road to Yosemite National Park for hours.
Highway 140 west of Mariposa was closed several hours, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Lt. Jeff Mesa of the Oakhurst Area CHP office said a semi tractor pulling was “traveling at a speed unsafe for roadway conditions” when the driver lost control of the vehicle and it overturned. The semi was heading west near the summit of the road before it drops into the Catheys Valley area.
When it overturned, the CHP said the big rig crashed into two other vehicles.
The CHP did not release any information about the other two vehicles nor names of the occupants. Officials did say the occupants of the two vehicles had minor injuries including abrasions and complaints of pain.
Because of the local of the wreck, which was just before the first sharp curve at the summit, the road was closed for several hours. CHP said the semi had to be lifted upright and then all the debris from the trailer had to be cleaned up.
Photos indicated the trailer of the truck was filled with garbage, which was strewn across the road.
Traffic to and from Mariposa had to be rerouted through the Hornitos area and then back to Highway 49 South.
