Grizzlies advance to playoffs as varsity softball finishes 8-4 in league

Playoffs have arrived as the Mariposa County High School varsity softball team wrapped up the regular season last week at MCHS.

The Grizzlies started the month with an 8-0 shutout against the Wildcats at Waterford on May 1.

Pitcher Mikaylee Martin earned the shutout, as she only gave up one hit while and recorded eight strikeouts.

Bailey Costa went 3-for-4 at the plate with three RBI, one run and one stolen base.

Kallie Wass was another factor as she went 3-for-4 with one run and a stolen base.

Things shifted on May 4 when the Grizzlies were on the receiving end of the shutout as they fell to the Knights at Stone Ridge Christian with a final score of 3-0.

This is the second time the Grizzlies have lost to the Knights, as they were also shutout earlier this year 8-0.

Tylie Allison pitched all seven innings where she gave up only two earned runs and one unearned run off of four hits.

Th e Grizzlies wrapped up the regular season as they hosted Le Grand at MCHS on May 6.

The Bulldogs took the win 14-4, which capped off a 12-0 undefeated season for Le Grand.

Wass put in the effort as she went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base and one double.

Krull continues to make a difference as she went 3-for-4 at the plate and recorded one run.

MCHS finished 8-4 in league which earned them a playoff slot.

At the end of the regular season Wass led the team in stolen bases (15), RBI (19), hits (27), doubles (8) and slugging percentage (0.488).

Allison led the team in home runs (1) and runs (25).

Krull finished with the highest batting average of 0.349 and an on base percentage of 0.468.

The Grizzlies went up against the Hilmar Yellowjackets on May 13 for round one of the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Softball Playoffs.

Hilmar entered playoffs with a 5-7 record in the Trans Valley league.

The Grizzlies faced Hilmar back in March where they were shutout by the Yellowjackets 21-0.

The winner of the playoff game between the Grizzlies and Hilmar will move on to compete in round two against either Bradshaw Christian (8-6) or Riverbank High School (3-12) on May 15 at 4 p.m.
