Fresno man drowns in mishap at Millerton Lake

A springtime trip to the lake turned into a tragedy after a young man drowned last weekend.

At about 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 2, the Madera County Sheriff’s Office received a call of a reported drowning at Millerton Lake.

The victim was initially unaccounted for when deputies were dispatched and was located prior to the deputies’ arrival.

Once on scene, deputies continued CPR efforts.

Emergency medical services responded and transported the individual to Valley Children’s Healthcare, the closest hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.

The victim was identified as Everardo Apantipan, 25, of Fresno.

Millerton Lake was created artificially by the construction of 319 foot high Friant Dam on the San Joaquin River which, with the lake, serves as much of the county line between Madera County to the north and Fresno County to the south.
