Free, family friendly concert to take place this Saturday at the Art Park

JNX FEST, a free, all ages music festival will be held at the Mariposa County Arts Park this Saturday, Sept. 12, starting at 1 p.m.

The music festival, open to the public, will feature seven bands from Mariposa, the Central Valley as well as from the San Francisco Bay Area and out of state.

In addition, there will be an open mic at the start of the festival for local musicians to showcase their talents, local food vendors, art vendors and bands’ merchandise.

The bands include:

• Tinklbob — Jazz/bossanova band from Mariposa

• The Remedies — Grunge band from Mariposa

• Peaboo and The Catz — Pop punk and rock band from San Francisco Bay Area

• Znora — Rock/blues band from Tuscon, Ariz.

• Kutie — Alt-rock from Fresno

• Second House — Alt-rock from Madera

• JNX — Rock band from Mariposa

JNX FEST is the vision of Jonah and Xavier Dacanay of the band JNX with the help of Spirit Dewitt, students of MCHS Rotary Interact and community members who planned and participated in the successful 2026 Spring Student Festival.

“For the longest time we’ve wanted to put a festival together to bring some talent we’ve met on the road to Mariposa,” said Jonah Dacanay, lead vocalist and guitarist for JNX.

“We are very excited to bring a free music festival for Mariposa County, the mountain community and surrounding communities to enjoy. The event is family friendly and everyone is invited to attend,”

He continued: “My brother and I grew up in Mariposa surrounded by a strong music community and we want to continue to support the arts and music, and make sure live music is encouraged and is accessible for our community.”

The Mariposa Arts Council awarded Jonah Dacanay one of the community grants last spring. The Arts + Community grant program, funded by the Mariposa County, invites working artists, groups and organizations to submit proposals for projects and programming that support community goals, or serve, uplift and represent underserved populations in Mariposa County.

Peaboo and The Catz

The grant program has been developed and coordinated by the Mariposa County Arts Council with direct ties to community goals. Multiple sponsors from the community have also helped with this event.

Jonah and Xavier grew up attending music performances including Music on the Green and performed in numerous shows including the Beat Harvest events to raise money for scholarships so high school students could take music lessons, a JNX rock concert for patients at Valley Children’s Hospital and performed for the Mariposa summer day campers while also educating the young campers about music.

JNX has also performed in many local events through the years including the Mariposa Butterfly Festival, the Mariposa County Fair and El Portal’s Spring Fling. The brothers, both graduates of MCHS, continue to give music lessons and their band continues to be involved in the local music scene.
