Transportation and pedestrian needs in Mariposa will be the subject of two upcoming meetings.

Mariposa County is inviting residents, business owners and community partners to provide input on proposed parking, pedestrian and transit improvements in downtown Mariposa.

The proposed enhancements include wayfinding signage, midtown Mariposa bus stop improvements and improved pedestrian pathways. The county has public meetings on May 18 and May 19, respectively, and an online survey for residents to offer feedback.

The county received a Sustainable Transportation Planning Grant from Caltrans to fund the Mariposa Town Transit & Economic Development Initiative.

After a series of community focus groups in September 2025 and bi-monthly meetings with a resident steering committee, this planning effort has developed recommendations related to parking, transit and pedestrian travel.

The online survey, which will be open until June 15, seeks the community’s feedback on two possible concepts for wayfinding signage.

One concept is inspired from the decorative emblem at the top of the Mariposa County Courthouse and the other concept is influenced by the warm orange colors of monarch butterflies and existing architectural elements downtown.

The survey also seeks input on parking management downtown, priorities related to pedestrian improvements and a conceptual design for a renewed downtown Midtown Mariposa YARTS stop.

To access the online survey, visit survey.alchemer.com/s3/8828189/Mariposa-Town-TEDI-Community. It can be completed in five to 10 minutes.

Two public meetings are scheduled for input, and interested residents are encouraged to attend. The first will take place on Monday, May 18 at 4 p.m. at the Mariposa County Board of Supervisors Chambers (5100 Bullion Street) and the second on Tuesday, May 19 at 5 p.m. at the Mariposa County Library (4978 10th Street). No registration is required.

The county is especially interested in hearing from downtown business owners and employees, property owners, private parking lot operators, neighborhood representatives and transit users, though all interested residents are welcome to participate.

A 10-person steering committee, made up of Mariposa residents, business owners and community advocates, has helped guide the draft recommendations for this initiative. The committee has met every other month since fall 2025.

If community members are interested in participating in future steering committee meetings, contact the Mariposa County Planning Department.
