Effective July 1, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) will merge its Mariposa Area office with the Oakhurst Area office, forming the Mariposa Resident Post under the Oakhurst Area command.
The Mariposa Resident Post will continue operating from the current Mariposa office on Highway 49 North in the town of Mariposa. Both the CHP’s Oakhurst Area office and the Mariposa Resident Post will continue to provide 24-hour law enforcement services to the public.
As part of the consolidation, the CHP will also adjust service boundaries between the Oakhurst Area office and the Sonora Area office. The Oakhurst Area and the Mariposa Resident Post will assume responsibility for all of Mariposa County.
Currently, the Sonora Area office serves the northwestern portion of Mariposa County, while the Oakhurst and Mariposa offices serve the rest of the county. Under the new alignment, the Oakhurst Area office and the Mariposa Resident Post will provide unified service throughout the county.
The change will streamline operations by establishing one primary CHP point of contact for enforcement services, public assistance and community engagement across Mariposa County.
The consolidation will also allow the CHP to combine resources and assign additional personnel to patrol operations. The merger will not reduce service for residents or travelers in Mariposa County.
No other information was available about the announcement.
