With all eight vote centers reporting, the Madera County Elections Office shared the earliest unofficial results of the June 2 primary.
Frank Bigelow currently leads in the District 5 race for county supervisor with nearly 47 percent of the vote, followed by Melanie “Mel” Barker with nearly 25 percent.
Bigelow has 3,265 votes compared to 1,736 for Barker.
Candidate Charles “Brook” Allen was in third place with more than 16 percent of the vote as of 11 p.m. on June 2, with 1,143 votes.
Candidate Mark S. Reed, Jr. was in fourth place with 813 votes.
Should those numbers hold, Bigelow and Barker will vie for the District 5 seat in the November general election as neither candidate earned the required 50 percent plus one vote.
Current Supervisor Robert “Bobby” Macaulay did not seek reelection.
In the race for District 1 county supervisor, incumbent Jordan Wamhoff received more than 86 percent of the votes for a total of 3,396 at this time, while candidate Benjamin J. Martin received less than 14 percent with 546 votes.
As of Tuesday night, there were 19,027 ballots cast out of 82,432 registered voters in Madera County. Vote-by-mail ballots postmarked by Election Day may be counted through June 9.
The results will be updated on Friday, June 5 by 5 p.m.
The elections office must certify results and submit them to the state by July 3. The secretary of state’s final statement of vote is required for completion by July 10.
