In what a family member described as an “internet love nightmare,” a man shot a Coulterville woman twice in the head on Sunday night before killing himself the next morning as he was approached by deputies in Modesto.
The victim’s injuries were minor. The bullets grazed her scalp, with one bullet lodging in the skin of her forehead.
The suspect, Keith Capron, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound Monday morning as deputies were preparing to arrest him in Modesto.
Capron allegedly shot the 64-year-old woman with a 22-calliber revolver at her trailer home on the 5800 block of Schilling Road outside of Coulterville.
Capron f led the scene in a stolen blue 2008 Toyota Yaris and was believed to still be armed with the handgun used in the assault.
A warrant was issued May 10 for attempted murder and a “ be on the lookout,” alert was sent to area law enforcement.
Monday morning, May 11, at around 8:30 a.m., the Stanislaus County Sheriff ’s office located Capron in the area of McHenry and Union avenues in Modesto.
As Stanislaus sheriff ’s deputies attempted a traffic stop, Capron shot himself.
Capron was taken to a local hospital where he died from a self-inflicted gunshot, law enforcement said.
The victim’s sister told the Mariposa Gazaette the couple met on Farmers Only, a dating web site that connects men and women who live in rural areas.
The sister described the episode as an “internet love nightmare.”
Capron, who is from Montpelier, Vt., arrived in Coulterville a couple of weeks ago.
The couple, apparently, did not hit it off in real life.
On Sunday, the 64-year-old victim was kicking Capron off the property when he allegedly shot her.
The woman, who the Gazette is not identifying because she is a victim of domestic violence, was taken to a local hospital. Mariposa County Sheriff Jeremy Briese said she is in stable condition.
Hours after the shooting, the Mariposa County Sheriff ’s Office was still processing the crime scene near Coulterville and searching the surrounding area.
The Stanislaus County Sheriff ’s Office had blocked traffic in Modesto as they investigated the apparent suicide.
In a Jan. 28 post on Facebook, Capron wrote, “Taking selfies at my wife’s house is how I roll. A liar, cheat, master manipulator, and wife beater! I’ll do your best friend and laugh in your face. I’m loyal to nobody.”
