The all-female Southern Sierra Miwuk Nation Tribal Council have bonded.

The members recently came together for a board retreat.

The members are Danette Johnson, director at large; Shona Medinas, vice-chair; Sandra Chapman, chairperson; Tara Fouch-Moore, secretary; and Tisina Parker, treasurer.

They called it “a meaningful time to connect, reflect, plan and strength our shared vision of the Southern Sierra Miwuk Nation.

In a press release, they stated: “As Indigenous women leaders, we carry the responsibility of honoring our ancestors, supporting our community and helping guide the next generation.

They said the retreat “provided and opportunity to build stronger relationships, engage in thoughtful discussions and continue the important work of serving our tribal citizens with dedication, compassion and purpose.

The group felt the retreat helped them in many ways.

We are proud of the strength, wisdom and commitment each council member brings to the table,” they said.Together, we are working to preserve our culture, support our people and create a brighter future for generations to come.

The group gave a special thanks to Mariposa Ignite Space “for generously providing a welcoming space for our first retreat.
