Audiences are already booing the villains, cheering the heroes and sighing at the romance during performances of the Golden Chain Theatre’s all-new modern melodrama, “Double Trouble,” running weekends through June 28.
Written in-house and now produced on the stage for the very first time, “Double Trouble” is co-directed by Jennifer Janine and Ruthann VanBuren.
“GCT’s Melodrama has always been about high energy and crowd engagement,” Janine said, “but now — in our 59th season — Double Trouble takes it to the next level by offering two shows for the price of one.”
The shows are Act 1, Pretty in Pinot and Act 2, The Bitterroot Backwoods Bakeoff. The acts move between the lush 1980s vineyards of Sonoma County to a modern television baking competition deep in the Ozarks.
Janine said the double feature marks a unique moment for the Golden Chain Theatre, as both scripts were written completely in-house.
Together VanBuren and Janine crafted a fast-paced, side-splitting experience that honors classic melodrama traditions while injecting fresh modern comedy.

And no Golden Chain melodrama would be complete without the legendary Golden Chain Garter Girls kicking off the evening with their traditional can-can!
“Double Trouble” is rated G, making it a perfect summer outing for the entire family. Audience participation is highly encouraged and guests will be given free popcorn to munch on — or to toss when a villain takes the stage.
The theater saloon will be open before the show and during intermission, serving up a variety of refreshing drinks and delicious snacks to keep your energy high.
