Yosemite Unified School District officials confirmed last week Matt Wilkinson will serve as the next assistant principal of Yosemite High School and the Educational Options program.
Wilkinson brings nearly 15 years of experience in education including classroom instruction, instructional coaching and curriculum and systems support.
He currently serves as a teacher on special assignment supporting instructional programs and academic systems at Coarsegold and Rivergold elementary schools.
Wilkinson began his teaching career in South Central Los Angeles, teaching seventh and eighth grade language arts and history.
In 2013, he returned to the Central Valley where he spent eight years teaching seventh grade language arts and history in Reedley and later taught in the Gold Creek Academy program serving students in grades 6-8.
A 2002 graduate of Yosemite High School, Wilkinson earned a bachelor’s degree in history from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo.
He has maintained strong ties to the Yosemite community throughout his career as both an educator and coach.
“Yosemite High School has always been home to me, so stepping into this role is incredibly meaningful,” Wilkinson said.
“I’m excited to give back to a community that has given me so much and to support our students and staff in continuing the strong tradition of excellence at YHS.”
Wilkinson and his wife Cassy live in the area with their two sons, Miles and Marshall. The family enjoys staying active together through sports and outdoor activities.
