Mariposa County High School had 13 Track and Field athletes qualify for Division V Trials on May 13.
The meet had 51 teams competing.
“This was the school’s Disney trip for the Seniors, so many of them chose their graduation trip over the track meet,” said coach Adrian Perez.
“Fortunately we were able to place alternate athletes in the relay events.”
The mens 4×100 relay team consisted of Jeremiah Jackson, Rusty Bull, Nathiah DelGrego and Joe Walker.
The womens 4×100 team consisted of Lily Peters, Aria Kornaros, Cora Grasso and Alison Wolf.
The mens team finished 13th overall and the women placed 21st.
Wolf placed 19th in the 200 meters.
Eamon Fluharty took first place in discus with a personal best throw of 154’ 10”.
Fluharty also placed 7th in shot put.
“He was our only athlete to advance,” Perez said.
On Saturday, May 16, the Division Finals were held in Hughes Stadium at Sacramento City College.
“This meet had athletes from 149 schools,” Perez explained.
“Eamon finished second for Division V and seventh overall for the Sac-Joaquin Section.”
This advanced Fluharty to Masters Finals which will take place on May 23 at Folsom High School (1655 Iron Point Road, Folsom).
“This has been a great week for Eamon,” continued Perez.
“Wednesday he advanced past Division Trials, Friday had a signing ceremony with Westmont College and Saturday advanced to Masters Finals. He’s one meet away from State.”
The top three at Masters qualify for the State Meet.
“This has been a great season with all the ups and downs that make athletics exciting and we have one athlete still competing,” Perez said.
“I definitely plan on being back next year.”
