Paul Revere remembered

Editor,

Thank you for printing the guest opinion submitted by Don Fox.

It was historical, very well written and being a history buff myself, I really enjoyed reading it. Don mentions our collective memory and the events that come to mind as we celebrate this year’s 250th anniversary of the nation’s founding.

The event that comes to my mind is Paul Revere’s famous ride, and I remembered a poem that I read in school long ago that was written by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.

So I looked up Paul Revere’s ride and read it again. It tells in detail that famous 12-mile ride that Paul Revere made on a “good” borrowed horse named Brown Beauty on a moonlight night.

He galloped through the New England countryside to Lexington alerting patriots along the way that the British were coming. His ride helped spark the American Revolution and the birth of our nation 250 years ago.

Thank you, Don, for pointing out Mariposa’s part in forging the ideals of 1776 and the freedoms that we enjoy today.
