Our treasured mom, Patricia Darlene “Hanwiska” Stevens, crossed over to spirit world on Sept. 19, 2026.

She was ready for that next adventure, and we are happy for her to be reunited with her beloved parents, grandparents, friends and ancestors; though we miss her more than words can say.

She began her earthly journey on Oct. 5, 1941, in Whittier, Calif. Her sunny nature, kindness, generosity and gratitude were infectious. She was loved and admired by all who knew her.

A gifted painter, poet and beader, in younger years she always had a project going — and always had a gift to give. She drummed and sang with the DAWI Drum Group, who played for veteran events and multicultural and native gatherings in and around Redding, Calif.

Ever resourceful and adventurous, she worked as a bartender, pizza chef and sales person, among other roles. Her last job was her favorite: at the LIFE Center (Local Indians for Education) in Shasta Lake City she managed the gallery gift shop and mentored young people, teaching cultural crafts and assisting in camp outs.

She loved attending powwows and ceremonies, traveling to new places, walking on the beach and spending time in the mountains — especially in her favorite place: Yosemite.

Most of all, she loved her family and wide circle of friends, and her little dog Kola.

She is survived by her children David, Lisa, Deborah, Michelle, Robert and their spouses; brother Mike and cousin Judy; an abundance of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; her adopted family, sister Lisa and daughters Christina and Roxann and their families.

“My spirit and my love will stay with you always… know we all have a time to leave this earthly realm, fly with the eagles, and go to the warm and loving arms of our Creator.”

—Hanwiska

Dates for gathering will be announced at a later time.
