The second edition of the 23rd annual Sierra Art Trails open studio tour takes place this weekend, Friday through Sunday, Oct. 9-11.
Some 68 artists are participating in SAT this year, stretching the canvas of the trail across Eastern Madera and Mariposa counties.
Travelers on the art trails will be treated to behind-the-scenes views of artworks in the disciplines of oil and acrylic paint, pastel, photography, ceramics, drawing, fiber art, fine craft, jewelry, printmaking, sculpture, video, watercolor and woodworking.
Sierra Art Trails (SAT) began 23 years ago, inspired by the desire to unite artists and artisans and to share their work with the public. The nonprofit has donated more than $26,000 over time to local businesses, other nonprofits and individuals through annual community awards.
SAT Board of Directors currently includes John Bock, Franka Gabler, Gloria Garland and Carolyn Hartling. The 2026 SAT committee includes Bock, Gabler, Hartling, Candy Emery,
Cynthia Sovulewski, Evelyn Voltz and Layla Capuchino.
Sierra Art Trails Preview Exhibit is open through Oct. 11 at Stellar Gallery in the Yosemite Gateway Art Center (40982 Highway 41) in Oakhurst. The show features a representative piece from each participating artists to help visitors plan their individual trail.
The full-color collectible Sierra Art Trails catalog for $25 is a ticket for two to the entire event, containing a directory of artists and studios, photos of their work, locations maps and more.
It’s available at Zanders Coffee in Coarsegold and in Mariposa at Chocolate Soup, the Visitor Center and Sierra Artists Gallery.
In Oakhurst, pick up a catalog at Artifacts, Oakhurst Giftworks, The Gallery at Oakhurst Spirits, Something Special, Visit Yosemite Madera County and at the galleries at Yosemite Gateway Arts Center.
