A Mariposa man has been charged with attempted murder, and many other counts, following a domestic violence incident last week.

Michael David Hayner, 44, was arrested following the incident on Oct. 24.

According to Kristie Mitchell, public information officer for the Mariposa County Sheriff’s Office, the incident took place at around 6:13 p.m. at a residence in the 2800 block of Highway 140 in Catheys Valley. That is near the county park.

Mitchell said Hayner allegedly “threatened to kill the victim, as well as reportedly strangled the victim.”

She said Hayner apparently fled the scene after the incident and was arrested a short time later riding his bicycle along Highway 140 in Catheys Valley.

Besides being charged with attempted murder, Hayner was also arrested for attempt to prevent/dissuade a victim/witness, robbery, false imprisonment with violence, assault with a deadly weapon, corporal injury to a spouse and threatening a crime. He was taken to the Mariposa County Jail.
